Is your greatest happiness in the past, or in the future? If we live our lives always looking back, it’s like running backwards in a race we desperately need to win. That will only slow us down and make it very difficult to reach the goal. We cannot go back to the so-called “good old days,” but we can go somewhere even better. We are getting farther and farther from the past and our youth, but if we are faithful Christians, we are getting closer and closer to Heaven! Christians should be realistically anticipating the future instead of idealistically dreaming of the past. “…it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” (Rom. 13:11; cf. Ecc. 7:10; Mt. 6:21; Lk. 9:62; 1 Cor. 9:24-27; Php. 3:13, 14; Heb. 12:1-2; Jam. 1:8).
